I've had a fascinating week, having bought some very interesting private collections. Today I catalogued a small but perfectly formed collection of books on haulage vehicles - not something I know a great deal about I'll admit, but it was obviously put together with great care and expertise. And the books were beautifully kept, which is always a joy to see.
From Hatherop came a number of fine art books with a distinct bias towards Russian and Venitian art. I love art books and there were several I wanted to put into my own collection, until I remembered I'm meant to running a business.
I also came close to getting my hands on a first edition of Cider with Rosie, by Laurie Lee, but it stayed within the family, which is no bad thing. I have though, bought the rest of the collection which comprises several hundred books. The collector, a former librarian, was a real book lover whose interest spanned many areas and I'm looking forward to cataloguing her books over the next week or two.
